In July 2022, the federal government adopted its gigabit strategy - and described it as a "compass for fiber optic and mobile communications expansion". The Federal Association for Broadband Communications (Breko) analyzes what has already been achieved and where course corrections are necessary.
The federal government plans to expand fiber optic networks nationwide by 2030.
Breko sees the gigabit strategy as an important step towards nationwide fiber optic availability in Germany, because with the goals of 50 percent fiber optic coverage by 2025 and 100 percent by 2030, it is clearly committed to a future-proof digital infrastructure and sets an ambitious pace. It also identifies the key challenges to achieving the goals and many sensible measures on the way there.
According to Breko, the fact that Federal Minister Dr. Volker Mexico Phone Number Database Wissing really wants to push ahead with the expansion of fiber optics is evident in the constructive cooperation with all stakeholders. But there is still a long way to go, says Breko Managing Director Dr. Stephan Albers: "Some measures have already been implemented, but there is still a lot to do.
In addition to the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV) implementing the outstanding measures as quickly as possible - in particular a solution for tactical double expansion - it will be crucial that states and municipalities also become even more committed to the goals of the Gigabit Strategy and quickly implement the measures in their area of responsibility."
Standardization of modern installation methods is an important milestone
One success of the gigabit strategy is the completion of DIN 18220 for trenching, milling and plowing methods in fiber optic expansion, which was presented to State Secretary Stefan Schnorr as part of the BMDV event "One Year of Gigabit Strategy". It could help to reduce existing reservations among municipalities and approval authorities and is thus an important step towards increased use of modern installation methods.
These could not only speed up many fiber optic expansion projects, but also make them more resource-efficient and therefore more sustainable than the classic open trench construction method. Ultimately, however, it will depend on the application of the new standard in the municipalities. Breko expects that many municipalities will use the new standard and that modern laying methods will therefore be able to make a much greater contribution to fiber optic expansion in the future. _________________ cell phone number listing |
